A Unique Blend of Art, Technology, and Sustainability

Wei Peng Hung, the creative mind behind "Ning," drew inspiration from the tranquility and peaceful emotions represented by the oriental Chinese characters of its name. The goal was to create a lamp that would provide people with a sense of peace and healing. The design incorporates elements from the Turkish whirling dance and Mount Fuji, resulting in a visually captivating piece.

What sets "Ning" apart from other lighting designs is its interactive nature. When the spinning top starts to rotate, the light turns on and continues to glow until it is stopped. This unique feature creates a stable mood and can be used in various settings such as bars, rooms, and even airplanes.

The design of "Ning" also carries a deeper meaning. It symbolizes the balance between humans and nature, reflecting the idea that just as people use natural resources to develop the economy, there is also friction with nature. The gyro represents this delicate balance, where both humans and nature must coexist and thrive together.

The realization of "Ning" involved the use of recycled materials. The entire lamp is made of recycled glass, with strong magnets at the bottom and a base made of recycled aluminum. Embedded inside are electromagnet modules and LED lights, creating a sustainable and environmentally friendly design.

With dimensions of 70mm x 70mm x 60mm, "Ning" is a compact yet impactful piece of art that adds grace and beauty to any space. Its bionic and ornamental qualities, combined with the craftsmanship of glass, make it a truly exquisite creation.

To operate "Ning," simply charge it first and then rotate the gyro on the base. Once the gyro responds to the electromagnet, it will start to glow and rotate, creating a captivating visual experience.

The development of the "Ning" prototype presented several challenges, including experimenting with various styling, materials, and motor configurations. The use of recycled glass required careful consideration of thickness and density to achieve the desired aesthetic and functionality.

Wei Peng Hung's "Ning" project began in October 2022 in Taipei and was completed in stages by November 2022. Through extensive research, it was discovered that interacting with lamps through design can have therapeutic effects, providing relief from the stress and emotional disorders that many people experience today.

The innovative design of "Ning" has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures category. This award acknowledges the outstanding creativity and resourcefulness of the design, as well as its incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology. "Ning" contributes to improving the quality of life and making the world a better place.
